Christos Carras PhD

Board member

Based in Athens, Christos Carras was born in London. He read philosophy at Cambridge University and then at the Sorbonne where he earned his PhD.

Since 2000 he has been working in the cultural sector, including at the B&M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts and Music and as the Executive Director of the Onassis Cultural Centre (Onassis Stegi). He was responsible for the music programme and other interdisciplinary projects, developing European cultural collaboration networks, and the centre’s sustainability strategy. He continues to collaborate with the centre as a Senior Consultant for Sustainability.

He was the coordinator of a large-scale study of the social and economic impact of the CCSs in Greece commissioned by the think-tank DiaNEOsis, completed in 2023. Since 2022 he has been a Senior Associate with AEA Consulting. He focuses on the role of culture in promoting sustainable development; interdisciplinarity and innovation in the cultural sector; evaluating the impact of culture, and collaborative cultural networks.

His research and publications include the aesthetics of contemporary sonic art, the role of art within broader networks and fields, the politics of cultural production and consumption and sustainability.
