Olena Kayinska
Olena is one of the artists selected for APOSTAXIS, a programme of residencies, co-creation workshops and exhibitions exploring resonances between Ukraine and Cyprus's histories of displacement. She is an artist, curator, researcher and cultural manager based in Lviv, Ukraine, working in the genre of intellectual primitivism paired with deep philosophical and psychological sensibility.
As an artist, Olena works in the genre of intellectual primitivism, paired together with deep philosophical and psychological senses. Her artistic career began in 2012.
The focus of Olena’s artistic research is trauma and post-traumatic recovery, psychosomatic healing, inner depth, complexity, and the multilayered nature of humanity that we experience alongside the knowledge that we are finite beings. In her artistic practice, she often explores the concepts of inner struggle and dichotomy — the tension between vulnerability and strength, pain and healing, the visible and the invisible, the rational and the mystical.
Olena Kayinska participated in 100+ exhibitions, contemporary art festivals and art residencies, and exhibited 19 personal projects. She was working as a curator of group exhibitions, artist residencies, and relocation programs for artists at risk. Olena has conducted several artistic researches on the themes of ecology, forced migration, traditions of magic and shamanism, which resulted in personal and group exhibitions, zines and books. Her paintings are kept in museum funds and private collections in Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Germany, United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Italy, France, Hungary, United States, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates.
