ECOSCAPES: Elena Adamou

Elena Adamou is a visual artist based in Nicosia. She graduated in Painting from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan, where she also earned an MA in Costume Design. She is represented by the @the_editgallery (Limassol, Cyprus). Her work revolves around the intimate dimension of ‘the passing of time’ and the resistance of vulnerable beings. 

Adamou analyses connections between time and the body, the self with personal objects, and the notion of belonging within familiar spaces and non-places. She perceives origin not only as a native stigma related to birthplace, but also as a pretext for analysing social contexts, drawing connections to the idea of “safe spaces”, environments that allow for freedom of expression, and authentic connection. She works with embroidery, textile manipulations, installations and video.
